The Future of Edibles – 2020 Is looking Tasty

October 17 was a delectable date. It marked the legalization of cannabis edibles in Canada. More importantly, it set in motion the beginning of a revolution in the industry. The cannabis market spent the last quarter of 2019 preparing for edibles, with 2020 vision.

This might be the year the stigma ends. Cannabis will no longer be exclusively associated with pipes, rolling papers and bongs. The “Tastemakers” of social media will endorse DIY edibles recipes, Monday morning water-cooler conversation will be filled with tales of trying “That cute weed cafe for brunch” and friends will boast edibles recommendations like fine wines during get-togethers.

“That’s Canabiz, Baby!”

Martha Stewart is teaming up with Snoop Dogg. The Bong Appetit cookbook became a hot Christmas gift. In 2020 we’re going to see more content about gourmet edibles and cannabis tourism reaching the popularity heights of gourmet food and travel content.

Vice Media is leading the cannabis content pack with great shows like Weediquette and Bong Appetit Cook Off. This year we predict that you’ll see well-produced, highly-polished and big-budget edibles cooking shows on Netflix and other streaming platforms. Imagine a show like Nailed It for quick & quirky contests, or Anthony Bourdain: Parts Unknown but for exploring what the globe has to offer in edibles.

The New Cola

Canada is the industry test market for cannabis-infused drinks. This means we get to look forward to CBD and THC soft drinks, energy drinks and alcoholic beverage replacements.

Suddenly, cannabis drinks will become as customary as bringing a nice red to a dinner party. No more standing outside with the smokers just to enjoy a good buzz, with infused beverages – you can enjoy your cannabis discretely, inside and among non-smoking friends.

Herb-an Eats

Edibles will no longer be an occasional treat, but a real meal. It will become so easy to make edibles at home that the cannabutter maker will be as much of a kitchen staple as the microwave.

If you’re looking to learn how to cook edibles like a professional, cannabis cooking classes might be for you. Cannabis Cooking Company is a Toronto based company that lets you bring your own cannabis, helps you cook with it and then lets you take your creations home to enjoy!

But maybe, you want to sit back and enjoy a culinary cannabis night out delivered from a true expert. Chris Sayegh, The Herbal Chef,  has been leading cannabis dining experiences with catering and pop-ups. His company provides true gourmet cannabis experiences like an 8-course tasting menu with a communal CBD dessert table measured for 10mg of THC and 5mg of CBD per person.
